Art & Design
The Dixie's art students are encouraged to work in all kinds of media, including ceramics, painting, printmaking and textiles. This extends their imagination, refines their artistic skills and develops their critical awareness. The department is a dynamic area of learning and the facilities are excellent, including a new hydraulic printing press for relief printmaking projects and sewing machines for the textiles department. The department also possesses two large kilns enabling ambitious ceramics work. Students are frequent exhibitors at the ISA School's Art Competition and have won prizes at both regional and national level. We regularly send students to Art Colleges after A level and we are proud to have an alumni of architects, photographers, car designers, graphic designers, television art directors, textile and fashion designers, illustrators and animators.

The Art Department regularly contributes to the cultural life of the village with a design role in the national Britain In Bloom competition and as contributors to the local arts festival the Bosworth Festival. We regularly involve ourselves with cross-curricular projects with other departments and have recently competed in “Art and Science “- The Bill Bryson Award with the Chemistry dept. The department fosters links with other educational establishments through our International School status. In 2010 12 students worked in collaboration with 12 Zambian students on a wall hanging based on village life in Livingstone. The students had the opportunity to draw from village life and create a quilted piece which is on display in the Zambian school. The department is planning to repeat the trip this year.
Art Scholarships are available to those entering the Sixth Form.
