We have high expectations of our students, both in their academic work and their standard of behaviour.

A determination to do one's best, courtesy and consideration for others, self-discipline and pride in one's appearance are encouraged at all times.

Students in Year 8 should be well settled in the school and be developing good working habits and organisational skills.

Students in Year 9 are expected to have an increasingly independent attitude to their studies and should understand that Year 9 is important preparation for GCSE's. Support is given to students as they make their GCSE options during the Spring Term of Year 9 and an information evening is held to assist in making informed choices.

Our students' happiness and welfare are of utmost importance to the pastoral team in the Middle School as we believe that being happy at school is the key to success.

Form Tutors are responsible for monitoring students' progress and welfare and are supported in their work by the Head of Middle School and the Deputy Head in charge of Pastoral matters. Form Tutors are the first point of contact for students or parents if there are any concerns, problems or queries. For subject-related matters the individual teacher or Head of Department should be contacted.

Every half term students are given grades for effort and attainment in all subjects and these are monitored carefully to ensure continued progress.

Success and effort in academic work, as well as participation in school events, are rewarded by credits. The total number of credits gained leads to the presentation of Award certificates. We are proud of the fact that the effort and attainment of a high proportion of our students are rewarded with Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards at the end of each academic year.

Students are also encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities and to develop their interests and skills. Involvement in sport, music and other school activities and trips are considered to be very important. Students have the opportunity to show their leadership skills by being Form Representatives and by attending School Council meetings.

Throughout Years 8 and 9 we try to give support, guidance and encouragement to ensure that our students are happy, achieve their full potential and are prepared to meet the demands of the next stage of their school life.
