We feel very strongly at The Dixie Grammar School that the International Dimension in education provides a tremendous range of opportunities to broaden young people’s experience and knowledge. This is why the International Dimension features as a high priority on the School Development plan. We place great importance on learning about other cultures and we are delighted to have been awarded the British Council International School Award 2007-2010, 2010-2013.
So far we have links with schools in China, Germany, Hungary and Zambia. Students also have the opportunity to undertake a variety of different trips/exchanges, for example:
Language Exchange to Germany
Science trips to Switzerland and the United States
Music Exchange to Hungary
World Challenge Expeditions have been unertaken to Namibia, Zambia and in 2013 Peru
Cross Curricular bi-annual visit to China
Bioogy/Georgraphy trip to Iceland
Art visit to Botswana
We see the International Dimension as an exciting opportunity for staff and students to learn about life in other parts of the world. We are all committed to ensuring that our students are given opportunities to broaden their horizons, to examine their roles as citizens of the global community, to challenge pre-conceptions of the world and to raise their self esteem and confidence by knowing that they can make a difference. In short we aim to create the sense that anything is possible.
All of this is being enhanced by an exciting programme of international curricular work, curricular links to China in all subject areas, the concepts of global citizenship in PSHCE and themed events such as India Day to support the Stella Louise Project (india), International Week and Chinese New Year.
The International Dimension is an exciting part of the curriculum for our students.
