The Rotary Young Chef competition was held yesterday afternoon and according to the judges the standard was higher than ever. From 49 applicants, 6 got through the preliminary round earlier in the term. Emily Clement, Dan Kennedy, Florence Ball, Cameron Overton, Matilda Langley and Abbie Withers produced 2-course meals that would not have been out of place in any restaurant. There had to be a winner – Abbie Withers finished 3rd, Cameron Overton 2nd and Matilda Langley, with her home made pasta came out on top. Matilda will now take part in the Bake off round between The Dixie Grammar school and The Hinckley Academy, the winner of which will go on to the District round which will be held in February. For this ’Bake off’ round each contestant will be asked to make a 4 egg Victoria sponge with homemade jam or curd filling. It will be made in school in Mrs Hannaghan;s presence and collected by Mr Goold of the Hinckley Rotary Club to be taste-tested at their club meetings.Good Luck Matilda!
