The Design and Technology Department enables students to develop their abilities to design and make products from wood, metal, plastics and electronic components.

We encourage the development of a range of key skills including;

  • Identification of design needs
  • Researching
  • Creativity
  • Analysis
  • Planning
  • Problem-solving
  • Evaluation
  • Communication

The Department enjoys excellent facilities within two adjacent specialist rooms:

The Resistant Materials Workshop

This room has a wide range of machine and power tools, together with a complete set of hand tools that students use to make the products they design.

The ICT And Design Studio

The Studio is equipped with computers and facilities for producing drawings and other design work by hand.

Facilities in this area also enable students to model their design proposals using a variety of graphic materials and computer-aided modelling techniques. The room also has the benefit of machines to produce components from wood, metal, plastic and a variety of graphic media, using modern laser-cutting technology.
