In this morning’s assembly Mr Dixon and members of the L6th encouraged us to seek balance in the news. 2020 has certainly started with some challenges but as ever where there is bad news, there are stories of the bravery & courage of those doing good. Students shared facts and statistics about how the world is getter better – fewer people living in Absolute Poverty, greater acceptance of diversity and even pockets of encouragement on the challenge of climate change. All this accompanied by Tom Giles’ beautiful playing of the piano beforehand – plenty to feel good about.

Mr Dixon finished with the following quote: “I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on the frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words. When I was a boy, we were taught to be discrete and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise and impatient of restraint.” – Hesiod (700 BC)
