On Wednesday 23 February children from the Dixie Grammar Junior School went to London and had the opportunity to see The Lion King. Following this incredible experience they auditioned for parts and created props for their own production, inspired by their trip, called ‘Roar!’ They performed to their family and friends on 29 and 30 March. Every child in Year 5 took part in the choir, singing a selection of songs enthusiastically. From start to finish, this was a whole year group production requiring all the skills displayed throughout the cohort, from singers and performers to backstage, technical, sound and lighting. The whole staff body also participated by helping to create the back-drop, making masks and by painting the children’s faces for the performances.

Mrs Jo Parkes, Chair of Governors, attended the event and wrote to congratulate the children on their performances, saying:

‘Please pass on my congratulations to Year 5 and the staff who made this production such a success.

The children’s enjoyment of performing was really evident. I thought the acting, narration, costumes, make up, scenery and props were hugely impressive. The sound team did a fabulous job too.

I shall look forward to seeing future performances at the senior school. They are clearly a talented group.’

It was clear to all that the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience and for pupils, parents and staff it was a delight to see whole year groups back together again in one joint event.

The Dixie Grammar Nursery and Junior School Open Morning takes place on Saturday 7 May and appointments can still be booked via the website here.
